I wanted to capture the separated silhouettes of the kids playing on the ice under the bridge. But I also wanted the texture of the ice to be felt, so I decided to blow out the background, beyond the bridge and in the daylight. Most of the time the kids were huddled up in one big mass, so it took a little patience to wait for them to separate out!
Gretchen Yost is a documentary and fine art photographer based in the small, mountain community of Pinedale, Wyoming. Gretchen is drawn to documenting the art of childhood, especially as lived by her two girls, in the big, wild country of Wyoming.
