This image took some patience and skillful positioning (I had to keep my own reflection out of the glass! No photoshopping for this documentary photographer:). This is a fine example of layering into a photograph, with skill and patience. First, I was photographing the older boy in the shower, then as the younger boy stepped in closer, I included him. Then, I waited for mom (behind me) to step into that bright white rectangle in the background. This is among my favorite photographs from this Day in the Life session.
Gretchen Yost is a documentary and fine art photographer based in the small, mountain community of Pinedale, Wyoming. Gretchen is drawn to documenting the art of childhood, especially as lived by her two girls, in the big, wild country of Wyoming. Although she's had a camera in her hand since age 9, Gretchen also enjoys camping, hiking, coffee, backpacking, skiing, wine, fishing, hunting, knitting, sewing and reading, especially with her kids.
