Ceri Herd
Hampshire
Born and raised in the UK, it was only when Ceri Herd moved to the USA that she felt she found her true photographic voice. Although she loved art and photography from a young age, she was first and foremost a musician. But when she relocated to Arizona in 2014, the desert light inspired Ceri to make photography more than a hobby. Moving away from friends and family, Arizona felt so completely outside anything she had ever experienced. With all her senses ignited, Ceri found herself trying to capture the entire scene or the entire moment. She wanted viewers in the UK to see how it felt, be it the wind in the trees, the ferocious heat of the desert or a moment that lingers like an instant dream-like memory. After three years the family moved again, this time to Massachusetts and Ceri was re-inspired by another new light. Her style has become predominantly characterized by using in-camera creative techniques to create a dream-like ideal. Whether it is with intentional camera movement, double exposures, shooting through objects or freelensing, there are always extra elements that can be incorporated into an image to transport the viewer to the moment or place in a unique way. In November 2018 Ceri and her family returned to the UK.
